A few years ago we bought 14 of the cheapest red wines we could find from local wine merchants and supermarkets for a Christmas party tasting. Two were quite unpleasant; 9 of them were adequate, two were very drinkable, and one was so good that we had to check that we hadn’t made a mistake. But we don’t all have the time to do this sort of thing.
